Luis Medina is an accomplished Ecuadorian artist whose work draws deeply from the cultural and natural richness of his homeland. With over 30 years of experience, his practice blends painting, sculpture, and muralism, often inspired by the ancestral rituals and vibrant spirit of his native town.
His mixed-media paintings, layered in vivid blues, greens, and yellows, evoke a dreamlike world filled with symbolic figures, oversized flora and fauna, and surreal landscapes rooted in magical realism. Through expressive textures and organic forms, Medina creates visual narratives that celebrate Ecuador’s intangible heritage while urging reflection on our connection to nature and cultural identity.
Awarded the Oswaldo Guayasamín Gold Medal for Artistic Merit in 2014, his work has been exhibited in prominent venues across Ecuador, as well as internationally in Canada, the U.S., Malaysia, Mexico, and Spain.
